Lego Magikus

So a few years back Lego got into the board game business and I didn't notice. I don't know, I must have been drunk or something. Anyway, not currently having the cash to swing for Lego Creationary, I decided to pick up one of their smaller games; Magikus. DSC_0007
Apparently a wizard and a witch throw things in a pot while Lego Hedwig watches.

The game is relatively simple and can be modified with a few suggested additional rules, or you can even make your own rules. The point is to finish your potion before the other players finish theirs. This is done through luck and strategy that can be surprisingly complex for what appears to be a simple game.

Ah the fresh scent of new Legos.

Here is everything that is in the box.

I made a quick little video of it being put together.

Here it is all finished and put together.

It even comes with clean up instructions! You know.. in case you couldn't figure it out... it might be to complicated.

Here is a close up of the pieces. Something I noticed with this set, and with recent sets that I have purchased.. and it may just be my imagination, but the bricks feel different than the bricks of my old sets. It is a bit hard to describe, but it feels like the newer Legos are a bit more flexible and maybe a bit softer.. in contrast the Lego sets I have had forever feel harder. Perhaps that is how Legos age but I distinctly remember them as always being as hard as they are now and it seems like the new sets are a different mix. Maybe I am crazy.

So what, in the end, do I think of Lego Magikus?

I think it is great. I had a great time playing it and it has great scalability being as hard or as easy as you like depending on the rules. It definitely made me want to go out and buy other sets, so that has to be a good sign. Right?
