PPPPAAAAAAAAAXXX! PAAAX! PLRX! OH GOD ITS OVER WHAT DO I DO WITH MY LIFE NOW?

Oh right, remember my time there fondly with pictures.

In line on day one for the keynote. The weather was beautiful and everyone still smelled nice at this point.

Having some issues with my camera settings… but omg so excited for Day 1 of PAX. The speaker was Ted Price from Insomniac games. After last years.. um… motivational? speech with David Jaffe I didn't know what to expect.

DSC_0135
Someone please explain to me the phenomenon of tall fit guy wears giant poncho style dress shirt. It's something that has bugged me for years.

DSC_0136
The talk this year was really good, I loved the message and left feeling both hopeful and inspired. We are all creators *single tear*.

Final note. Go forth and make cool shit. Good call on the speaker this year PAX team, Ted Price nailed it.

DSC_0142
Just the Paramount Theater being lovely, and my S.O. telling me "Take a picture of that lamp."

DSC_0143
The hustlers enter the hall for the PA Q&A.

DSC_0145
Excellent questions this year, only a few awkward moments, far fewer than last Prime and 4 Day Prime and PAX Australia announced!

Official PAX swear word lady stands and delivers her traditional question. I was trying to come up with an official title for her… I settled on the Sweartress.

Mike and Jerry receive some fan art.

After the Q&A we met the amazing Alexandra Douglass for lunch to discuss things to be announced later this year, but mostly we talked art and nerd stuff. After which we went off to explore the Con proper and I fear my camera stayed safely sheltered in my bag, the Swag hunters are in full force on Fridays. However I did take a few iPhone pictures of….
Untitled
My first ever black rare which I got signed when it turned out that Mark Tedin was at the Card Kingdom booth and I happened to have it in one of my Commander decks that I was carrying with me.

Untitled
The view from our hotel room. We stayed at the Crowne Plaza again, but I think next year we may chose a location not so… um… uphill from the convention center… and all the places where I could eat safely.

Untitled
And these adorable Misaka figures I picked up at one of the booths selling all that weird stuff from Japan I so enjoy.

Day 2 started with the glorious make a strip panel. The stage is set for come comic magic.

DSC_0005

DSC_0007
Better seats, better camera settings, better photos.

DSC_0008
Mike fields some more questions while Jerry lays down some verbiage.

DSC_0009
Jerry's head + Spotlight = Needing a neutral density filter for these events.

DSC_0013
Jerry is positively radiant.

DSC_0015
The joke starts coming together.

DSC_0016
Mike sits down for some serious business.

DSC_0024
Drawing nipple rings requires concentration tantamount to ocular surgery.

After the make a strip we got lunch and wandered around a bit.

Untitled
I made a point to hit Kris Straub's booth in bandland specifically to get this pin. I was going to chat him up a bit, but he seemed a bit tired and on the grumps, so I just quietly withdrew.

Then it was on for some D&D!

DSC_0030
Had to stand in the burning hot sun but managed to get some sweet seats and snag a spot for our friend Meghan Stratman.

DSC_0033
The Adventurers take to the stage!

DSC_0041
Jim Darkmagic holsters his dual wands as the Dungeon Master Chris Perkins makes his appearance.

DSC_0047
Excitement mounts as the party prepares.

DSC_0050
Shit…just….got…..real.

DSC_0054
Chris catches the party up on where they left off and asks everyone to make a save.

DSC_0057
Jerry (Omin Dran) rolls the crit miss heard round the world and is knocked the fuck out.

DSC_0058
The party awakens in a strange chamber.

DSC_0059
Behold what a corporately sponsored campaign can fund!

DSC_0068
The adventurers are bound to stone altars and quickly release themselves and jump off the sacrificial platform and head towards their weapons piled at the center of the room. The DM smiles. Never a good sign.

DSC_0070
"You've Activated My Trap Card!"

DSC_0071
Mother fucking acid pit. With mood lighting.

DSC_0073
Wil (Al) relives painful memories.

DSC_0075
Acceptance.

Ah the joys of being a dungeon master.

After D&D we rushed over to our friend Tally's craft panel, only to miss the cut off since the room was at capacity. So we hung out with Thomas (@stealingzen on the twits) and played Zombie Dice until it was over. Dikla dropped some mad gluten free beer action on me in a whirlwind rush that surrounded Wil Wheaton as he exited the panel. It's always interesting to be around Dikla, she doesn't travel so much as she storms. In every encounter with her so far I have ended up feeling slightly disheveled but in a good way. Like getting caught in a thunderstorm and splashing through puddles on the way home. After the skies cleared we headed to the hotel for dinner and a nap before the LRR panel which we ended up leaving 30 minutes into because Nicole can't stay up late no matter how much she says she can. Do not believe this woman if she tells you different. If "Nicole" was a race in D&D their racial ability would be "Summon Blanket."

DSC_0087
Day 3 was spent hitting all of the things we missed on Day 1 and 2. The Independent games area was the star for me. Everything just looked so fun, pure and simple.

DSC_0090
Back out to the main hall briefly.

DSC_0091
And then back to the Indie-games.

DSC_0094
The new Pikamin looks like lots of fun.

DSC_0097
And we couldn't even get close to see Epic Mickey 2. Neat display though.

DSC_0101
Much time was spent around the WOTC booths.

DSC_0102
What up Drizzt?

DSC_0106
Lolth was in display. As a man I kept my distance, but Nicole posed for a good pic.

DSC_0109
I thought Lolth looked a little derby. "ERMEHR GEHRD DER ERNDER DERK!"

DSC_0110
More of the expo hall.

DSC_0111
And then we went to the MTG Creative Team Panel which was WAY more popular than last year. In 2011 we showed up an hour early and were the 1st in line, sitting right behind the VIP row, this year we showed up an hour and a half early and got some way shit seats. Also… day 3 nerd smell was terrible… oh… my…… gods….. fucking shower and brush your teeth convention peoples…. what the serious fuck.

DSC_0114
Due to time constraints (the panel really needs to be way longer and in a larger room…) the team blasted through the material. However I did manage to get up to the mic and ask my question this year. Guess which one was me.

After the MTG panel I was feeling a bit sickened so we headed back to the hotel to relax…. yes… skipping the final Omegathon Round and closing ceremony again… sorry.

IMG_2161
That evening we headed down to the Crab Pot to get some dinner with Meghan and her guy Evan and two of their friends. The walk down was pretty pleasant.

Untitled
This is why you go to the Crab Pot. You can order piles of food, which was delicious!

IMG_2171
The Crab Pot was crazy busy and we ended up out on the patio which was perfect because it was a beautiful night and ended up being a perfect way to close out PAX 2012. What a rush.

Thanks everyone we met and hung out with and chatted with during PAX. All the games and panels and stuff was cool, but it was all the awesome people we met and chatted with that really made the event special.
