The day after Thanksgiving is a time for not only relaxation, but a time to get great deals on various games and merchandise across the internet. However, one very grump indie developer got massively salty when they saw that their western visual novel was placed beneath the much beloved Nekopara and the critically acclaimed Japanese visual novel, Saya no Uta, on the front page of Steams visual novel section. This move by steam apparently infuriated them so much, that they took to twitter to bash Saya no Uta as being nothing more than tasteless porn and then went on to insinuate that their product is far superior in every way possible, even tho many times these western created visual novels end up being heavily inspired by or outright imitate said Japanese works.
Before we get into the backlash which was swift and brutal, one reddit user correctly pointed out that the writer’s claim of their game being “multi-award winning” is highly exaggerated. In fact all of the awards Necrobarista received were all gotten before the game was ever released. Since release, the game has yet to get a single one.
It didn’t take long for social media to pounce on them for there very bad take. The backlash was brutal to say the least and may have also cost them potential customers who were going to pick up their product, but have since changed their mind.
Right on queue, they quickly protected their twitter profile due to all the backlash. Also, the true irony in all this is that the banner on their twitter profile perfectly matches their thoughts and attitude in this situation. As the age old saying goes “A picture is worth a thousand words.”
